Increase in eating disorders in our Children

Did you know that 1 in 10 teenage girls have an eating disorder. Boys with the same issues are on the increase too. The problem is so severe that it threatens to effect an entire generation and has had an increase of cases year on year by 15% from 2003 to 2009. The highest rate being from 15-19 year olds and 10-14 for boys. Anorexia and Bulimia being the main eating disorders reported, but binge eating being reported as issues also.

There’s not enough information or knowledge on what is causing this increase year on year, however, pressures from modern lifestyles and culture is believed to be the main reason.

I think children have¬† enough pressures on their heads now days to be worrying about keeping up with photo-shopped and under nourished models. If these figures are a direct effect from increased awareness then that’s great, however, I am fearful that this increase of cases are a direct result of more pressure on our children through media bullying and lack of knowledge on how to eat well!

Educate parents and let our children be free to eat well and regularly.
